Default 2003 Freeland HSE

My wifes Freelander is flashing an F4 code in the speedometer. I can't find what it could be. The HDC warning light came on too along with the service engine soon light. I went out and started it up again, and all codes/lights are out except the service engine soon light.

any ideas?

when the f4 flashes in the message center it indicates a fault in the transmission
and the ecu implements a limp home mode. the engine light is on due to the engine ecu
getting a signal from the transmission ecu that there is a problem.

So do I have to worry about replacing the entire transmission, or could it be a solenoid pack or something? I have been doing some research and I have read that it can be something simple as opposed to replacing the entire trans.

thank you in advance.
