Always wants to be in 4WD.....
Hi everyone,
I poked around the siet looking for similari mentions and remedies perhaps of my ailment, or the vehicles ailment. In question is a 97 Land Rover Discovery SE and seeminly no matter what I try it always goes into 4WD. One time even when I went to get on the highway I found I was in 4- Lo. As it is I'm stuck driving around in 4-Hi. I wonder if this might be something like an actuator/ solenoid thing of sorts. I just don't know where to look. Any pointers or direction to a walk thru fix would be most greatly aappreciated..............
THanks

You have a CDL (Center Differential Lock) shifter in front of your normal gear shift lever. For normal driving it should be all the way back, towards you, and to the right. This is "all-wheel-drive," meaning whichever of the four wheels has the best traction at any given moment will receive 100% of the power the drivetrain is putting out. (The truck isn't really a true 4-wheel-drive. The CDL locks the differentials together so one front and one back wheel will spin.)
