CRANKING/RUNNING PROBLEMS
I have a 97 defender. It sometimes has problems cranking. It fires and acts like it is going to crank but seems to not be getting fuel. Sometimes you can wait a day or so and it will crank. I replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump and still have problems. Also, sometimes it goes dead when driving and stopping the vehicle. It putters out like it ran out of fuel when the vehicle is idling. You can attempt to restart it but seems like it is out of fuel. Any advice on what the problem coud be? Thanks, Justin
Sometimes it will crank and run without a problem. When the vehicle stops however, it will putter and die. Other times it will not crank at all. It will turn over but acts like it is not getting fuel. Is a crank sensor the same as a tuning resistor? Someone told me the tuning resistors (2 small black boxes) which power up the injectorscan rust and cause problems like this.
That is why I was asking, cranking and turning over is the same thing
Sounds like you have a failed crank sensor that will cut the injectors and or spark plug off.

Hey thanks,

There is no such thing on a Rover. You have a crank sensor that has failed, it is bolted to the back to the engine, on the drivers side below the cylinder head up against the firewall.

Is there a way I could speak to you about this issue? The d90 is at the dealership now and they have been unable to diagnose the problem. Can I call you or you call me at 256-504-2890? Thanks,

ok so I rearended someone in my 98 disco and had them go ahead and put an ARB bumber on with air bag compliance. Now I start the thing and it idles normally no knocking (that I can tell) but when I drive it there's no power. It feels like only half of the engine is working and i can barely make it up a small hill without it sounding like it's bogging down, so I pulled all of the plugs to make sure they werent fouled and checked all of my fuses. I checked the schrader valve on the rail and fuel is coming out nicely... Twice at a light it stalled on me but cranked back up. Also my CEL is on now. Is this something that could have been caused by the shop and any ideas what it may be?
First, this has nothing to do with the post.
Repost and ask your question.
Also, before you get back to use go get the 4 digit fault code numbers read and get back to us so we can help you.

so the fact that my truck is not running correctly has nothing to do with "cranking/RUNNING PROBLEMS"? Just wanted to see if you might know off hand so I didnt have to blow a benji at the dealership for them to give me the code and tell me what it is...
