I was off roading on my 2003 land rover discovery with 130000and all of a sudden I heard a loud pop on the drivers side wheel. After that my rover went in limp mode and whenever I would turn I hear a big pop on the same side. But when I go straight their is no sound at all!

 

Sounds more like CV joint busted....but the diff is closer to the driver side's as well ...you will have to check both...
