Now that you have it home, service it thoroughly. I never heard about your driveshaft, had it been replaced by a serviceable unit? And just for interest, I have never had mine as high as 80 mph - it is a 4x4, not a sport coupe. Ah, youth. So if there is a funny noise at that speed, you are pretty much on your own....

The drive shaft is the original - no rust, no play, etc. I am still pulling it in the next few weeks and sending it to be rebuilt.

I never planned on driving 80 either - unfortunately that is the speed of traffic on the 70MPH roads in the southern part of the US. Now that it is back up north it will never see 80 again.

I am reviewing the service stuff now - thank you all for your advice.
