My 1996 LR all the suddan wont start. It was fine a few hours before it has this problem. It cranks, but doesnt seem to be taking in any fuel. The fuel gauge stoped working at the same time. I've checked the fuse and the collision cut of switch, all seems to be fine. Could a bad fuel pump cause the fuel gauge to stop working? I dont think the fuel gauge is not connected to the fuel pump, or I'm I wrong. Any help would be great! THANKS!!

The fuel gauge and the pump are one in the same unit.
But it seams like you have lost power to the pump.
The first thing is check the fuel cut off next to the window washer bottle
push in the button on top. Check fuses and the little box next to the
battery. You can check the top of the fuel pump to make sure the wires
have not come loose.
To get to the pump you just move the carpet in the back and you will
see the cover to the pump.

You may also want to check the fuel pump relay, they are known to fail.

I have a 97 that did the same thing, all i did was unplug the fuel pump connection and plug it back in and it turned on!!!

 

I had the same problem before... unfortunately, before I found out about this website. I paid almost $600 to get the fuel pump replaced by the Rover Group in Miramar, CA.
