Default Help! I really messed up.

I was working on what should have been a simple project today. Channing out my valve cover gaskets. I had two bolts break off on me. They are also in really hard to reach places with tools. I tried to drill one bolt out and use an extractor. I broke the drill bit and it jumped and messed up the block a bit. I also broke off two extractors in the hole. I fear I need to tap this hole now. I had a damn hard time using a center punch and hammer so I was off center to start with. I’m at a loss of how I should proceed. Should I just send it to a mechanic and have them fix this so I stop f’ing it up?

Too bad you got the one drilled off centre. The concentric one might come out if you drill a bit deeper, then heat the casting up with a heat gun and use another screw extractor. Use as large a screw extractor that you can. Get the casting quite hot.

Also you should post this in the section of the forum appropriate to your vehicle. You’ll get more traffic there.

No offense intended, but yes, you should stop and send this to a trusted mechanic. Of course, that's just my opinion, but you asked
