Default HELP PLEASE—headlight issue

I have a 2007 Range Rover Sport. The drivers side headlight started flickering so I switched the bulbs with the passenger side to see if it was just the bulb. It was not. So, I ordered a new ballast, installed it but there is still flickering. Seeing as my original ballast wasn’t the issue, I took the new one back off and put the original back on. Well when I turned the lights on after reinstalling the old ballast the plastic on the headlight and igniter pack melted. Luckily I just had the lights on to check and make sure they were working because it melted instantly. While changing the ballast I never touched the bulb or igniter pack (I had switched the bulbs days prior and the lights had been working fine except for the flicker). I know a loose connection can cause the melting but could it be from a loose connection from the ballast that would cause the headlight and igniter pack to get hot? I don’t see how. Any advice is greatly appreciated. TIA
