2002 Discovery. My transmission will suddenly stop working when driving; it acts as if in neutral. Odd thing is when i turn off the engine and restart it the trani works fine - for anywhere form a few minutes to a few hours. At times the "S" and "M" light sin the dash and the "D" light in the gear indicator in the dash and the small red light in the "D" on the shifter blink.

I have been told a million ideas on what is wrong. ANy help???????
Solenoid in the transmission is bad?
Speed sensor in Trani is bad?
Neutral switch on top of trani is bad?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

take it to a dealer and have it diagnosed. transmission shops won't know what to do.

 

How many miles on it, when was it last serviced, have you checked the fluid level, do you know how to check the level?
I agree with the last post, you should get it to a shop, but not the dealer where all they can do is replace it, find a local tranny shop and let them test it.
