Land Rover A.C.E Power Steering Fluid???
2002 Disco II
So my project for this coming weekend is to finally replace my leaky power steering pump. I ordered a new pump on ebay for $98 Bucks (Sweet Deal). But, I forgot to get Power Steering Fluid and I Know form all the vids I've watched and all the post I've read you MUST use Land Rover A.C.E. fluid or else your Disco will Explode right there on the launch pad killing everyone for miles around. So, I made the dreaded called to my local dealer and ask the price for this liquid gold. His answer just 49.50 per quart! Are you
F#@$&$! KIDDING me, I said in total disbelief, the fluid is going to cost me more than the new pump did! Yep, that sounds about right, he said.
So later today I'm reading my official handy dandy Discovery Work Shop Manual and on page #57 under lubricants & fluids it says the steering system uses good old fashioned ATF. Dexton II ATF to be precise. Which I can buy a 55 GAL drum of for what they want for a quart of the Land Rover stuff.
So, my question is who's right?
