Default LR3 Tailgate Stuck

The tailgate will not open on my 2005 LR3. It appears that the tailgate wants to unlatch but it doesn't.

I've been told that the LR3 has no way to access the tailgate area with out breaking the plactic cover on the inside of the vehicle.

Any help in this area?

Thanks

Remove the Land Rover emblem on the rear door handle and spray it with silicone spray, work the handle several times and repeat if needed.
Do this every 6 months to prevent it from happening again.
More often if you live on a dirt road.
It is also recommended you do this to all door locks, latches and hinges.
Including the hood latch.

different can of worms, disco threes use a cable and latch assembly. the trick is to get the plastic panel out a little on the inside. I use a flat screwdrivers and get behind the carpeted paneling just above the top of the cover. get that to come out by wiggling and pushing out. Once the carpeted section is pushed out enough to access to panel then tear apart the water shedder to see the cable. That cable is broken inside the cover. But with a set of pliers grab hold of the cable and twist it to get the tension on it till it pops the latch. I find wrapping one set of pliers around a few times and then on the side of the latch grab hold with another set of pliers and twist and pull it opens. then you can take off the latch. I advise having the latch assembly first before trying it. You don't want to do it again. The dealer should have one in stock. Basically its the cable and latch assembly for the upper door.
