Default M and S lights flash, Dosent display gear!

My Land Rover suddenly started acting all wonky! The M and S lights would flash, so i would restart it and there would be no problem. Now all of a sudden, when i put the car in gear, the red light by the gear shifter no longer works, and the display on the dash is either blank or wrong. I could be in drive, and it could say "3' or even "P"!

I took it in to get it fixed, but the mechanic's tool that he uses to talk with the car could not pinpoint exactly the issue, as it gave a bad switch or possible bad contacts as the issue. He did not want to just start throwing parts at it.

Does anyone here have an idea on what the issue could be, or the part that needs to be replaced? He will replace any i tell him to, but i dont want to just throw parts at the truck either!

Talk with your mechanic and see what the exact fault code numbers were and get back to us.
Also go have your charging system tested at a local parts store. Voltage should between 13.6 and 14.4.
Let us know what you find.

Sounds like an XYZ switch that is either out of adjustment, or is bad.

Switch Gear Position Xyz (Genuine Part # UHB100190) - Land Rover switches/control unit/actuators from Atlantic British

Like Mike said, check the alternator, battery, and connections first.

Ok, the mechanic just got back to me, and this is the code:

p0705
"transmission range sensor A circuit"

Is this what you needed?

I'd try adjusting it first. You should be able to loosen the bolts and turn it slightly.
