Need Guidance
Hey everyone I have a 2001 Land Rover Discovery SE. I got a laundry list of repairs but this shop is changing me 4k in labor on a part list barley over 1k. Any tips or pointers? Should I shop the parts for myself?
Looks like they are changing the head gaskets and doing the timing chain while they've got the engine torn down that far. That's a multi-day job, and any reputable place is going to have the heads skimmed and pressure tested as well.
The springs are in a totally unrelated part of the truck, as is the fuel door, so it's not like partial disassembly of the engine is going to take time away from completing those jobs.
Wiper motor and bulbs are simple jobs you could do yourself.
Sure, the parts may not be extremely expensive, but if you can't do the work then you've got to pay someone else to do it.

Part it out. Take the money from the sale of parts, add the $4k and buy a another vehicle. If you can't maintain the truck yourself, these trucks are really don't make a lot of economic sense given their lousy re-sale value.
