Rear Door Stuck - 2000 LR Discovery 2

Oh, and don't click on the link. I did it because I'm running Linux and not much can happen here (generally.)

Thank you guys for the replies...I pulled the back panel off enough to see what was going on...everything was still attached where it should be, and pulling on the rod didn't help. I was going to try the child-lock remedy, but a friend borrowed my Rover that day, and totaled it...so at this point, the back door not opening is no longer an issue. Off to find another rover! Thank you guys so much for your help again!

Check Child Lock After Opening
Thanks for the posts, they were very helpful. I have a 2003 Disco and had a problem opening the cargo door. I took it to Land Rover and they charged me for that small plastic part for the lock coupling. That was 2 months ago and yesterday it happened again! I was going to take it in to Land Rover again but decided to check on the net and found this thread.
I used a pocket knife to gently pry open the panel on the inside as this thread suggested. It took a couple tries pulling and pushing on the connecting bar but it finally opened. The plastic part looked fine so I closed the door and tried again. No werky. So I climbed in the back again and forced it open.
I didn't realize it but there is a child lock on the side of the door and it had slipped down to the lock position. But shouldn't it open from the outside regardless? I pushed the child lock up to the unlocked position and it started working fine. I gently pushed the panel back into place and everything is fine now.
The door is very heavy and requires a good slam to close it properly. Perhaps that constant jarring (and gravity) eventually caused the child lock to slide down to the locked position. If the door opened from the outside it wouldn't have been a problem. As a short term solution I wedged a rolled up piece of Gorilla tape beneath the child lock to prevent it from happening again.

I have a question also that is similar to this. I have a 2006 LR3. One of the rods that hold up the read window has become detached. I think the plastic piece that kept the rod in place broke off. It doesn't seem too difficult to re-attach but I'm not sure where to get the pieces to re-attach the rod. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

04 disco rear door lock not working right
Hey everyone, I am having a similar problem: My rear door lock works fine from inside and out, BUT, cannot lock/unlock it with the key fob.
I can hear it clicking inside the door, but it's not moving the lock button up or down.
I tried spraying in the back (behind logo on outside of door, and i checked to be sure the child lock is not locked.
both the interior and outdoor handle work, and the interior handle makes the lock button "pop" up like it should., but nothing with the key fob. (just clicking)
Is this the actuator itself? is there a way i can repair this? or do i need to replace?
Thanks for the reply....

It was the CHILD LOCK that got itself stuck in an intermediate position!
Solution:
Solution:
- I think I was having the same problems as the original poster, and angling a screwdriver (from the inside of the car) past the door weather seal bulb to push the child lock back all the way up into the unlocked position resulted in a loud CLICK and then the door worked perfectly for a few cycles before getting stuck again (requiring the same fix). Even though the child lock switch looks 'up', it isn't all the way up and only forcing it up with a screwdriver push results in it unlocking. When the child lock is stuck in an intermediate position, neither the inside nor outside handles work. I'll be replacing my door lock actuator, as it seems to keep getting itself into this intermediate position.
- My Land Rover Discovery 2 tailgate / trunk / rear door is stuck shut. All handles feel like they function properly and the door lock actuator sounds normal in each key fob unlock, lock, and superlock. The little door lock tab indicator on the inside of the trunk door pops both up and down as it should when actuated via key fob, and it pops up when the door is locked then the inner door handle is pulled. So all this looks and sounds normal. But the door is totally stuck shut! I've removed the interior trunk door trim to view the actuator and it looks fine and operates fine. But door won't open. Help!
- This is *not* the classic Disco II rusty outdoor handle fixed by WD40 issue. The outer and inner door handles pull and spring return just fine.

unlocking the tailgate door childlock from within. you can go for it blind, but i found it to be easier to just pull the weather seal bulb to improve visibility
improved visibility with weather seal bulb removed
diagram of what you're trying to do
you can even see the child lock switch indent in the foam
the goal is to push this switch up to the unlock position. i know it already looks like it's up, and it won't shift much... but it'll shift a bit, and give you a big loud satisfying click when it goes.
