run a new wire from the door to the switch.

 

I have a 2001 DII with the same problem in the same driver's side window...seems PO decided to just unplug center console switch to "cure" the issue. If you get this (I know it's a really old thread) could you let us know how things worked out? Did you ever find the short? Is there a place that is prone to short, so I can start there?
