Default Service Engine Soon light

2003 Freelander: The Service Engine Soon light illuminated. Using an Actron Scanner, I got codes 1470 and 1472 so I replaced both Varible Intake Butterfly valves, aka motor 1 and motor 2. Then cleared the fault code. The Service Engine light returned. Now the codes are 0172 and 0175. There is a difference between my Rave Service Manual and what I get from my internet research. Two web sites say trouble faults P0172 and P0175 indicate a rich reading from both O2 sensors. My Rave manual says, "fueling odd bank (LH clyinders rich limit" and "fueling even bank (RH cylinders) rich limit. My thought is to swap both O2 sensors and clear the fault code.

What do you think? What should I do?

Those codes indicate that both ot your banks are running rich. How many miles on your Rover?
Need to start looking for vacuum leaks, maybe a MAF, starting to fail.

Thank you for the reply. What is a MAF? What does it look like and where is it located. My '03 Freelander has 92816 miles.

Under the noise suppression cover (on top of the engine) are a few rigid plastic hoses that cross over the top of the intake manifold.

The tee that connects them broke and I put it back together as best I could without replacing the Tee. Is that my problem?

Does the Actron obd II scanner work properly on a Land Rover Freelander?

The motors you replaced are called vis motors. They failed becuase the upper intake is falling apart causing havoc in the variable manifold and setting off up to 6 codes. The motors never fix it becuase the valves they are moving are either jammed, broken or soo loose that sometimes sounds like a valve tap scottt

The MAF is usually located between the air filter and the t/body.
Don't got throwing parts at it though till some confirms the cause of this issue.
