Default Transmission Problem

I have a 1999 Land Rover Discover II. It has an alarm that come on when starting to drive. The transmission light comes on and blinks at the same time. It feels like it is not fully in gear. Also, I got under and listened to the tranny while in park and running, and there is a slight knocking noise. Any ideas what this may be?

Don't drive it, have it flat bedded to your local Tranny shop before you start it again, sounds like you have had a mechanical failure. If it is the tranny, yell if you want a price on a good guaranted used one.

Could that be a tranferbox light (beeping) alarm ? did you try shifting the T-Box leaver from high to low and back to high ?
If you have a tough time moving the leaver , move the trans leaver from D to N ,then move the t-box leaver.
The knocking might be unrelated ?

Ya, I think that's the (transferbox)light/alarm.I tried moving it back and forth (and it was hard in both N and D), but I still get the alarm.
