Default U joints issues

Can anyone explain why the u joints on a 2000 Discovery are not serviceable and require replacement of the front drive shaft?

so that land rover and dealerships can make money???

they don't want you to turn the wrench on your own vehicle, just like how a sealed transmission from ASTON MARTIN that is in the new jags and rovers costs 6 or 7 thousand dollars and can't be fixed but replaced, (as i understand, i might be wrong)

the only thing that makes the stock driveshaft "non-serviceable" is the non-greasble ujoints. go to napa, buy 3 new greaseable ujoints ~60, put them in if you know how to work with a double cardon driveshaft that has a centering pin.

I've seen one front DII drive shaft that was rebuilt by an Indy. It's a double cardon type joint. No idea on how they did it.

05', It's just not economically feasible for the Manufacturer to provide training, tools, and parts to rebuild transmissions in the Field for such a low volume vehicle line. Look for that to change as Ford already has Ford transmissions in Jag's.

Just go to a drive shaft shop, for tractors and agricultural equipment, i got a new front drive shaft and new ujoints fitted off of irrigation equipment for my 95 disco, all said and done it was 275 dollars, dealership wanted 750 for driveshaft, and 75 dollars per ujoint (2) and 2 hours at at 95 an hour, over a grand easy. I got a new drive shaft installed and it is even stronger than the discos stock for less than the labor and Ujoints alone.

Or you could call Bill over at Great Basin Rovers, he can build you a HD double cardan, or check out Tom Woods, they custom build off road driveshafts, and have built many for LR's.
