Default White smoke out of exhaust

Recently bought back my 2000 Discovery 2 from my cousin. He put 130,000 miles on it (201k total mileage), maintained it fairly well, but sat for periods of time. After getting it back I worked and fixed all the little things that were wrong with it, nothing major mechanically, an alternator and cosmetic stuff (lights trim wipers). I recently was driving it and white smoke started pouring out of the exhaust, usually this means coolant is getting into the exhaust and it's the head gasket, in this case according to one mechanic it's not. It is burning oil internally and according to him needs to be shipped out to a machine shop to check the valves and pistons. I am taking it to a land rover dealer today to see what they have to say and what they think I should do. Chances are I'm just gonna rebuild the whole engine, any ideas or thoughts? Thanks -

White exhaust is water/coolant
Blue/gray exhaust is oil
Black exhaust is a rich fuel mixture

Are you losing coolant?

Chances are, fuel tank has water in it. Is there a water separator inline on this. If not drain tank, or install a water separator and drain periodically until tank is empty. Also, never fill tank while a tanker is filling the tanks at the station where you are getting fuel. While filling their tanks, water, sediment and crap us stirred up and ends up in your tank. I had a write up in the diesel forum a couple of years back. White smoke, crazy knocking, etc. had to drain separator every 30 miles or so. Dirty crappy water filled my separator. Just a thought, mind you.

That's oil leaking into the cylinders , head gasket blown most certain , white smoke pouring out ...means oil is pouring in the cylinder....

For some reason I thought this was a diesel. I would keep an eye on coolant level and oil level. 1 should be disappearing. Check plugs, one should show a lot of soot buildup. Could be rings, blown head gasket or worn valve seals.

lets go back to your first answer:
WHITE = coolant
BLUE = oil
BLACK = rich

I think some else is confusing white with a new pope

lets go back to the original post "I recently was driving it and white smoke started pouring out of the exhaust, usually this means coolant is getting into the exhaust and it's the head gasket, in this case according to one mechanic it's not. It is burning oil internally and according to him needs to be shipped out to a machine shop to check the valves and pistons." this is why i suggested oil people........ it happened to my other LR gasket blown around 3rd and 4th cylinder..
