Default Cleaning Electronic Throttle Body

This e-TB needs a cleaning and I need to manually move the e-TB plate to open/close it. Unlike older mechanical TB's, I understand that you're not supposed to manually press on the e-TB plate and move it while it's connected to the engine. Apparently, the open/close position of the butterfly gets out of sync with what the computer thinks the current state is. Other's say you can manually push it open and closed as long as you do it slowly. It's a point of disagreement across the forums.

In my case, I have this e-TB off the car and disconnected. Can I manually press open/close the e-TB plate for cleaning without any concerns? Will I break the motor gears that are normally controlled electronically?

I did without issue (carefully of course) while it was fully removed. Twice now actually. Getting it reattached with bottom retention clip is a PITA.

You might be better off soaking it in some sort of parts cleaning solvent instead of moving the plate, and then drying it completely.

Thor,

I gave up on the Land Rover spring loaded clamp and I switched to the Volvo clamp (a Jubilee style if that is meaningful to you).

Take care
