Default freelander lr2 td4 2014 drive disengages

Dear members,

i have a problem with my freelander2 td4 2014 auto gearbox. I believe it is called LR2 in certain countries. It has around 50k km.

Once in a while, while going downhill, i feel a vibration which lasts a few seconds, and then the engine free revs as if it is in neutral although the stick would be still in drive. The only way for drive to resume driving would be to turn off the engine and start again. This only happens rarely and the car drives normally otherwise.

the wonders of a gearbox fluid change!
truly. not to mention that if there was unecessary wear in the clutches or bearings it would show up in the fluid.

A 2014, only 50k. Be present when they change it out. And compare it to the new. When you see the gunk...
While you're at it, change the diff fluid and haldex fluid and filter too. I let my dealer do mine. Or any mechanic that knows these vehicles.
My LR has 120000 km. My Jag, 150,000. and they run like new.
And we use the LR off the beaten track.

I don't let anyone touch it that doesn't already know it.
you'll be glad you did. truly.

This may not have anything to do with your problem, but I suggest you familiarize yourself with HDC as you troubleshoot this issue.

That may be old school thinking, but if you're concerned you can do a partial fluid change... that way you don't completely alter the fluid that the tranny may be accustomed to.

I had mine changed (full) at about 100K miles and it improved the operation of the tranny (I6 motor, not sure if TD4 tranny is the same). It was trusted mechanic, not a quick-change shop.
