Default Lr2 hse window issues!!!

Hello,

I have a 2008 LR2. I love it! I never had a issue up until a couple days ago when my passenger window as well as my driver side back window won’t roll back up. It makes a noise for a brief moment like it wants to go up but then it goes quiet and nothing happens or it will start to go up then it just falls back down. I’ve read forums on here about windows but they don’t sound quite like the same problem. Is it unlikely for 2 switches to go out at the same time? I’m super frustrated. I live in MI and it’s 7 degrees. Putting plastic up doesn’t do much so I really want to get this figured out. Please, any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Have you connected it an OBDII reader to see if they are any related codes being reported by the modules?

I thought those only worked if your check engine light is on. I do have one. I can try to see if it reads anything.

There are many conditions that will not illuminate the check engine light. The windows are one of them, because they are not part of the engine.

Also, check out Freel2.com and do a search on your issue. LR2 = FL2(Freelander2)

Exactly. Typically the only conditions that trigger the CEL are emissions-related or something extremely serious. Common OBD2 scanners won't read codes from all the other modules. You'll need a more advanced (expensive) reader to access those.

Your local auto parts store may offer free scans and they might have a scanner that reads all codes from all modules from all vehicle brands.

Both windows? Weatherstripping causing too much friction? Have the windows been worked on? Why are the windows down in the winter?

How is this relevant to the question from the OP?

apologies... I don’t understand what seems to be opposing statements “won’t roll back up” then “falls back down”.
It doesn't sound like a switch issue to me.

It appears she attempted to bring the window up manually and it would not stay up. I suspect that the window has disengaged itself from the motor, or else the motor gave up the ghost and is turning freely. But I wanted to see if there are codes first about this in the computer that might help.
