Default 2006 LR3 notchy binding steering

Hey everyone....I have a 2006 LR3 with 116,000 miles on it my steering became very notchy, I've been told that it's probably the lower steering shaft, I cleaned and lubed the u-joint, it seems like it got a little better, but what I've realized is that the notchiness happens after driving for a while, and doesn't happen while the car is stopped and wheel is turned, ps fluid looks fine, the ps pump is not making any noises and the belt seems tight....I figured if it was the u-joint on the lower steering shaft it might get better with driving for a while, but it's the other way around....very confused....any suggestions?????

There is a U-Joint on the bottom of the steering column. That's usually the issue. Some people have had success lubing that...I had my steering column replaced (that section of it anyway) instead and it's been good since.

Thank you....I'll try lubing it, if that works I'll get a new lower shaft and install it when it starts binding again

Mine does the same thing, simply builds up because it sits. Got much better after driving it for a day, but I too plan to just swap it out. "Lower Steering Shaft" I believe it's called. Should be about $110 ish.

exposed U joint midways in steering input shaft, can see it from engine bay. If it gets dirt, mud, crap in it it will start binding up and get really notchy.

Sometimes you can get it to go away by dousing it in WD 40 and then smearing it with some grease. YMMV

You need this: https://www.lucky8llc.com/products/l...column-genuine

Pretty sure we have a 10% off code floating around this week, too..............
