Ok, well, I stopped over to the PAP at lunch to find what was left of a '05 LR3. It appears to have the V6 variety, which until today I didnt know was a thing, as the PCV was not where it appeared it should be. In my search the V6 uses the same PCV as the V8- does anyone know if that is true and if so where I might find it in the engine bay?

Update: This past weekend I replaced the PCV and all sparkplugs. All were dirty and in need of replacement. I did not detect any odor of antifreeze and any of the plugs. After all 8 were replaced, the smoke disappeared for the first test drive then came back for the second. Once the engine cooled down I pulled the plugs again and noticed all but two were clean. The driver side rear near the firewall (I assume #8) was already black, the passenger side front (under the PCV) was showing signs of black but not as bad. The other six looked clean and pristine. As a note, I am not getting further misfire codes however I have noticed a decrease in performance while accelerating.

I think my next move will be to replace the #1 and #8 coils and see if there is an improvement. Assuming there is I will go ahead and replace the remaining 6. The good news is this is looking less and less like a HG, bad news is I am still getting smoke from the exhaust...

A simple $10 inline spark tester will tell you if you're getting spark to the suspect cylinders or not

Quick update. I have been sequentially changing out parts starting the the PCV and Plugs, then to coils. As I stated in my post above, the 1 and 8 cylnder plugs were carboned (blackened) . The number 8 was especially bad. I replaced those two coils and after some test drives and a commute into work, there appears to be no smoke and the rover is responsive. Fingers crossed. I will report back in a week or so to update my results.

You are a Long way below $6500. Good for you!
Shows that a little diagnostic work may be all that is needed some times. I do wonder where the coolant went though.

I hope this fixed it for you.
