Aftermarket DIY AV install - advice on connections
Hi,
I have a 2006 LR3 SE. I am currnetly using a standard Garmin on it's mount but with power running to the power adaptor on the centre console and audi running down the console under my chair and into the back of the arm rest console.
I would like to attempt to install an LCD screen in the gap on the dash and fit a Garmin console device behind this.
I was was hoping it would go something like this:
- Remove side covers of centre dash console
- Drill small hole at the top, rear of the centre console (under the mat) and where the screen will sit for cables
- Place Garmin console and/or AV hub behind screen, connect Garmin colsole AV out to screen
- feed cables down drilled hole into cavity behind existing stereo
- Then connect the LCD/AV hub to power from the car and audio to the factory fitted stereo
- Test all, if it works, fit screen to dash
Then hopefully, a nice clean finish with no cables.
However, I have no clue what to expect in terms of connections behind the factory fitted unit or which to select to connect to. I assume these are ISO type plugs and spares are available?
I would be very grateful if somebody could help me:
- does my plan sound ok?
- what do the connections I require look like (if anyone has pictures I would be delighted)?
- is there anything I should know before attempting this?
Thanks,
Fraser
