Default Alpine Glass Roof crack

My LR3 Alpine roof crack and it needed to be replaced. We had it replaced by our local dealer here but realized that the dealer charged us profit on labor for a 3rd party to install our glass. If I had known that they charged extra for labor, I'd be shopping around town for an installer. They didn't kept their words on the labor quote they had provided to us personally. My car is out of warranty so I've learn to shop around if I need to fix anything on my LR3. I would not have any problem if the dealer kept their word on the estimate range ($250 to $300), but the amount to be $360...Response by the service manager: we charge profit on labor...So they profited on parts and labor from us. I complained the concern to corporate.. Their response:
Thank you for contacting the Land Rover Customer Relationship Center.

I was very sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with the price charged by Land Rover New Orleans for your service of your Land Rover. Because Land Rover Retailers are independently owned and operated, they are able to charge whatever they feel is appropriate for the parts and labor they supply. It would be illegal for Land Rover, as the manufacturer of the vehicle, to set prices for Land Rover Retailers. We do, however, provide our Retailers with the manufacturers suggested retail prices for parts, which they adjust to suit their individual needs. Retailer pricing is based on such factors as competition, location, and overhead.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Karin Gehrmann
Land Rover North America

PS: Shop around if you're out of warranty..

Look at it from another angle: extra $60... 110 saved you time otherwise spent on 'shopping around'. Besides, I assume the dealer warrantied the labor?

Btw, how much was the glass itself?

How much did the glass cost? I'm in a similar situation with my roof glass being cracked. I'm really curious how much the glass costs because I'm struggling to find any info on the internet.

completely normal. You dont realize to replace the window, the entire headliner and and sunroof and other parts have to be taken down.

and if you don't have glass coverage and didn't have the insurance cover it then its your stupidity for not getting it and or not using it.

Wait till you have to buy a heated windshield.

My deductible on insurance is $500 so they paid the balance of it....What upset me is that Land Rover charged more than initially quoted...Repair quote is about $200 below the actual invoice...I felt that Land Rover took advantage of the insurance amount statement that we have to present to the installer (which is Land Rover)..I was also upset that Land Rover didn't tell us they do not deal with insurances...After the fact, my reason behind it is for them to find out how much our insurance is willing to pay....So they increased the labor amount to the maximum that my insurance provided to me...My insurance quote was around $1000 to fix...I had to resubmit the extra amount to my insurance since it went over the amount my insurance gave me...It was a hassle but we paid out of pocket and got reimbursement later on....

we as dealers do not get shanghaied by insurance rates.

Those rates are so damn low we just ignore them. Body shops double time to get their money back.

insurance companies will pay around 40 an hour for any and all body work.
