Default Ashtray won't stay closed

Yesterday when I got in my 2006 LR3 I noticed the ashtray was out. I have tried several times to push it back in and it won't latch. Does anyone know a fix for it without tearing the dash apart? I don't use it so if someone knows how to disable it that is fine too. Thanks.

There is a way to replace the ashtray assembly. The new one does not come with all the bits, and I was told you couldn't disassemble the old one to get the parts needed to transfer to the new one. I did it, and took a ton of pictures, I haven't done a write up yet. Dremel tool came in handy. Let me know if you need some tips / pictures.

I have the same issue. I disassembled the dash and part of the suspension control to remove it. It's not has hard as you think. In a search engine type lr3 ham radio install and you should find a YouTube video some guy did. You can find the new tray assembly on Atlantic British but they've been out of stock. (At like 60 bucks ) I've seem them elsewhere for over two Hundy.

When I got mine apart I saw the issue. A cracked plastic gear thingy. No way to repair at the time but I've invested in q bond and and going to actually try repairing the plastic crack. I've used the q bond on a few other items and damn... Super glue is like Q bonds bi@ch. if it works I'll let you know. Takes about 15 minutes to disassemble the dash at most. Shockingly easy.
