Aux Input Sound Shocker Pro for the win!
I like anyone that has tried to use the Aux. In plug on the back of the center console, found that you had to turn up the volume to high on your device and on the stereo in order to hear the music, etc., especially while driving. I had seen that some people had used the "Sound Shocker Pro" to boost the input (I have no affiliation with PHP or Sound Shocker). I came across a Sound Shocker Pro on craigslist. Ironically, it was listed by a guy that had a LR3 that had been totaled. It is made by PHP and is called the Sound Shocker Pro. It is about the size of a deck of cards, maybe a tad smaller. It requires no independent power source. I picked up a couple of male to male 3.5 mm cords and used a lightening adapter for my Iphone 7 plus. When I first plugged it in, the sound quality was horrible. I realized that the volume on the phone was maxed out. I turned down the phone volume to about 80%. The sound is great! I did an incredible job of boosting the sound volume without impacting the sound quality. Radio, am or fm, cd or aux., the sound level is all about the same. The sound quality is superb. I haven't seen too many of these for sale on the used market, ie craigslist or ebay. They retail for $59 from PHP. There is another version that appears to be designed for headphones and not for vehicles with high-end sound systems. I only used it for about 10 minutes, but it sounded great. It was a good purchase.
Note: pick up some male to male cords on ebay, they are a few dollars. In my excitement, I went to Staples to get the cords, it was close and I was excited to put the Sound Shocker to use. Staples price........$17.50 plus tax. You will need two cords, one from the Sound Shocker to the Aux. plug and one from the Sound Shocker to your device, phone, ipod, laptop ipad........Some people have relocated the aux. plug from the back of the center console, I will look into that mod. It would be nice to tug the cords and the device into one of the glove boxes. One issue with these vehicles, there isn't any storage space. If you have the fridge option, there isn't anywhere within easy arms reach to keep your "stuff."
Price: $25 used, retail $59
Time to install: 27 seconds, not including the trip to Staples......
All the best, Phil

I'm just going to state for the record...
I purchased a sound shocker pro and it did boost the volume but audio quality was very poor. That said, the guy who sells these was very understanding and did accept a return for refund. Might be worth someone's time to try, might not.

I wonder what the problem was with yours. Mine sounds great. When we first bought our lr3 I bought a 3.5mm male to male cord. The sound was horrible. I bought another cord and the sound was fine. Mine is a home run. Phil
My post could have been clearer. On our 2005 LR3 and our 2006 Range Rover Sport, the sound level when using the aux input was very low. Much lower than the sound level, volume, when using the radio on either am or fm or when using the cd. It was a common issue with at least those two years. Using the sound shocker boosted the sound level on the source that is plugged into the aux jack. Phil
