Brake pad warning sensor wire

Brake pad warning sensor wire
When changing the pads on an LR3 is it really necessary to change the sensor wire every time. I was told that as long as the warning did not activate and you still had pad left you could change out the pads and reuse the sensor, is this correct? The front sensor wire on the LR3 is a pain in the *** to change.

As long as the plastic doesn't break when removing it from the old pad. They can become very brittle over time. Last time I got them out cleanly and was able to reuse them. I bought new beforehand though. So now I have a new set sitting on the shelf for next time. I'm sure they'll be to brittle next time.

yes you can reuse, yes it will be brittle after a while, high heat area etc.
I replaced a new sensor every time, eventually I just cut up the loom, bundled it behind the wheel well liner, spliced the wires together and ziptied it in a neat loop out of the way. No more crap brake warnings, just visually inspect regularly.
This is from someone that checks diffs, t case, trans, oil level, coolant, belts, on a weekly basis. YMMV

When we sell a brake job, we always quote a new sensor and we always replace the sensor. People often drive them until the light comes on (rendering them useless) or they have been in use for so long, the years of thermal cycling makes them very brittle and fall apart during removal.
If you have not worn through yours and it didn't crack or fall apart during removal, then there is absolutely no reason to replace it. In fact, Land Rover recommended in a TSB for brake noise, to re-use the sensor if in good condition (see picture).
