Capacitor/Condensor NLA - Alternatives?
Hi folks,
Tracking down some "reduced engine performance" issues on my 2005 LR3. Still has the original capacitor at 150k miles so even if it isn't the primary issue, I wanted to update to the "new" style part. I've seen the part, LR004160, mentioned multiple times, but it appears to be NLA, and not superseded by any new part numbers.
In some of the earlier threads on this topic, a number of people mentioned this was identical to a Ford part from the F150, but looking at Ford parts catalogs from the same era (2005-2006) F150's, I don't see any similarly functioning parts that also look similar. Anyone have suggestions on an alternative for this part? Seems like this is a part that needed replacing with reasonable frequency---very surprised that LR would discontinue it, or at a minimum, that Britpart wouldn't have a reproduction part for it.

Where is this capacitor located and how does it cause reduced engine performance? Did a scan tool tell you that was the cause? A capacitor is a simple electronic component and I find it hard to believe that it could cause reduced engine performance or be unavailable. Is it perhaps something more complex? A module?
The capacitor is not technically needed. You can disconnect it to diagnose engine issues, same for the one on the transmission (except LR4, needs to be there). Its primary job is to reduce interference with the radio. Pretty much every engine out there with spark plugs has these, even my 1973 Lincoln. With the LR3 the capacitor can fail in a state where the engine will not even start.
