Clunk, brake calipers?
I am getting a clunk at high speeds on dirt roads that seems to be coming from the front. It isn't consistent. I have noticed that if it is making the noise and I apply even the slightest pressure on the brakes the clunking stops.
The sway bar bushings and end links have been changed, all of the suspension bushings tested good. I've replaced the caliper bolts on both fronts with no difference. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas.
Thanks,
Jim

Pressing the brakes a little bit does a lot more then just apply the brakes, you limit suspension travel, you transfer weight to the front end, and you pre-load the axles, diff, hubs, and the rest of the drive train.
Is it only at higher speeds, or does it happen over bumps in a parking lot as well? I would be taking a look at control arm bushings and ball joints, and also double checking the torque on the sway bar links.

Only time I get noise is 30 mpg or more on dirt roads, and then not consistantly. Never anything in day to day driving, braking, speed bumps, etc. All of the bushings and ball joints check out good.

I also have a clunking sound coming from the front end. I notice mine going over speed bumps and ruts offroad. It makes the noise when the front end goes over but is quiet when the rear end does. I check sway bar bushings but haven't gone any further.
