Question Electrical completely dead

A friend was driving my 2009 LR3. Stopped the car and shut off the engine. Turned the key to ignition. The lights flickered for a few seconds and then everything was off and has been off since. Had it towed to a mechanic and he believes it is a major short circuit. He connected a small booster battery and the cables became very hot and the booster refused to provide charge. Any suggestions on how to locate the short?

Sounds like your alternator died and killed the battery.

You can YouTube procedures how to find a short, the mechanic should be able to manage that.

Are you able to jump start the vehicle using another running car with heavy gauge 2-4 gauge cable?

If the booster cabled got hot, I would certainly not recommend jump starting. As abran said it sound like a short, no need to damage a second vehicle.
