Update on mine..driving down the highway. Chime..engine system fault..flashing CEL. CEL goes out, no limp mode, just barely any throttle, but still cruising at 70 mph. Throttle picks up and then chime, engine system fault and flashing CEL. CEL goes off and throttle picks up. Got to destination and had my GAP tool. Checked the faults and the typical lost communication lost, then engine misfires in unconfirmed section.
Got home and pulled the plugs, found bottom of one covered in oil, but seal wasn’t right. Changed all plugs, checked coils and they seemed fine. Drove and seemed fine. Damn, this truck is starting to become a real problem. If I didn’t love it, I’d sell it already.

Im not familiar with the valve covers on theses. But since these are COP setups, I assume there is a "tower seal". A sorta o-ring that seats between the valve cover and head for the coil to pass through. That plug may get oiled again. This was a BIG problem with Lincoln Mark VIIIs when Ford first switched to COP on the 4.6L. The tower seals, as they called them, lasted maybe 7 years before leaking.

Well, all this started after I took it to a shop in San Antonio that closed down. Replaced the timing chains, VVT sprockets, radiator and thermostat housing.
Now the shop is closed and I’m $5k in the hole with a mysterious problem going on. Just my damn luck 🤬

I’ve narrowed it all down to braking. When I’m cruising and brake all the sudden it will cause the Engine System Fault, Cruise Control Not Permitted and limp mode. I’m guessing the used transmission that I had put in is the cause? The shop probably didn’t have the right software and maybe that’s the case.
Drove 200 miles Friday and truck was great. Got to Austin today and got brakes quick and the messages all popped up.

Man...I’m starting to give up. This truck is beating me down. I’ve hooked up my GapTool, but there aren’t any codes. The message center i stays on the screen only momentarily then disappears. Then when I restart it’s back to normal.

Wtf?!
