Default Looking at a 4.4 LR3 with a possible blown oil pump

So I spotted an 05 LR3 SE 4.4 with 186,000 miles that the owner mentioned had a possibly bad oil pump. I know that oil pump failures are rare on the 4.4 and so I was wondering what else could possibly be causing low oil pressure. We currently have an 07 RR full-size with a 4.4 and a few 4.6 discoveries that I’ve rebuilt so I wondering The difficulty level of getting to the oil pump on the 4.4 if that were to be the problem. Thanks.

I would walkaway unless you are buying at scrap price. I have never repaired one but have broken down those motors, not simple. Plus, whatever damage has been done with the low oil pressure? 4.4 motors are cheap because they rarely fail, swap in a used and walk away a winner.

Yeah I guess I didn't mention that I've pulled motors before and wouldn't be opposed to replacing it being that you can find 4.4's pretty cheap all day, I was really just curious about oil pump location and if anyone on here had messed with them before. Price is still a little high right now for the situation but the seller sounds negotiable.

I agree with abran, low oil pressure usually means damage if its it running. I would look at he cost of a replacement engine and book time for labor - deduct those from the asking price. Even if you are doing the work yourself.

Believe me I’m familiar with low oil pressure as I’ve owned two 2003 Land Rover Discoveries and have purchased one with a failed oil pump. Yes, I know this is a much more complicated engine. I understand buying a vehicle and negotiating the price according to the work required whether it’s done at a shop or not.

its in the general same location as on the D2 motor, behind front cover. I think both chains are wrapped around it.
