Default LR3 Coolant Bleeding, expansion tank question

Everything seems good. Heat inside, etc. But neighbor says top of expansion tank should have fluid in it. His does and so did my old one. That weird area on the very top. But this is also a newer style tank. And we did manage to get fluid up there and fill the area by opening the black breather cap on the tank, but then it seems to have emptied out while I was tinkering on other truck projects. Tank itself is above the hot line, so still plenty of coolant.

Mine is a 2008, with a recently replaced resorvoir. It does have a bit of coolant in that top section where the overflow hose enters. Pic below taken when cold:

Yeah, I think I will bleed mine more. On anther note, I am pretty sure you have the wrong coolant expansion cap on there. The 4.4 should have 110 kPa/16psi. Yours appears to be for a different Rover which operates at much higher pressures - about 30psi.

Definitely should have coolant where the return line joins the tank. Try running it for a while, release the bleeder screw and loosen the cap and watch the fluid level... Add more coolant as necessary. Also, squeezing the big hose going into the thermostat housing to get things moving can help some. I also found that disconnecting this hose at the thermo housing and pouring coolant directly into it until full, can speed up the bleeding process dramatically.

I suspect/hope that's the label that off brand manufacturer slaps on everything. I could certainly be wrong, but no problems with it after 1 year.

No, because that cap is a different part number. Even the genuine caps look like that, different part numbers based on ratings.

Ah, I see. I guess I'll need to get the correct one. Thanks for the heads up!
