LR3 Electric Fan Clutch:
Yeah I guess the tech at the LR Dealership in Houston (had belts replaced just before I bought it) went to town with a 10ft breaker bar or something. I mean my 36mm clutch tool was darn beefy, but it died in about 5sec when trying to remove the LR3's fan clutch. I saw several video's online of people having all sorts of issues so I kinda expected a 50/50 chance. When I used the chain to keep the pulley in place and the cresent wrench opened up enough to slip I called it quits and went hardcore. I also tried heat before I went to cutting and that was my last ditch effort before I cut the silly thing in half.
Got home & the new fan was sitting on the front porch. Fan blade is identical, but the fan clutch itself has a longer shaft on it by about 3/4 of an inch. It fits with zero clearance issues, and honestly now I have more room if I ever have to deal with it again! Install was maybe 5min, cranked it up & it roared like the old days until the engine idled down. Even then you could hear it and feel air moving vs before where it was nearly silent & you felt barely anything. Took it for a spin and it’s around 6F cooler than before.
AC was cold, but I’ll check the pressure on a good hot day just to verify it. Just wanted to update everyone. It showed up well packaged and I’d say it was darn good quality for 175.00. Time will tell how good it really is though lol.
