I just wanted to let people know that I have just purchased a replacement key for my 2006 LR3 from the local hardware store. It is a flip type key made by Ilco PN: IRKEHF with a GTI transponder. Its called a Smart4car fob and looks to be for honda and nissans among others. Mark (the owner of the hardware store) used his EazyClone Plus to program the transponder to match my original key. The blade he used is for a 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and he used a roll pin to attach it to the fob. He also cut the key with a silca twister side cutting machine.
The key opens the door and starts the car. He is working on getting the buttons working at this point but a great backup key for cheap.
~100 bucks and it works.
Anyway, thought maybe this would help someone out there.
I couldn't even tell what frequency that Ilco transmitter is on, so it may not be physically possible even with the right software/dealer tool. I recall my LR3 being on 315MHz.
