LR3 Transmission slippage RPMs jumping up and down at ~40MPH
Recently the transmission in my LR3 stared acting up. on a flat grade at ~40-45MPH, I noticed the RPMS going up and down, up and down with no change in the accelerator pedal. Is this slippage? About 30K miles ago, I had dropped the pan and changed the fluid, filter and ZF seals. I did not change the solenoids. I opened up the drain plug and drained a bit of fluid. It wasn't that much since I didn't drop the pan. I added one bottle of Lubegard Platinum and one tube of shudder fix. Then topped off with Ravenol 6HP fluid. I then reset the adaptations and test drove it. The transmission was immediately fixed. I've driven it about 50 miles since and the problem hasn't returned. In fact, it shifts better now than after the first tranny service 30K miles ago.
I didn't measure how much fluid came out but it could have been 4 liters. When I filled it originally I had the tranny up to temp and shifted through the gears and then filled until oil spilled out so hopefully I didn't under fill it. I bought the LR3 with over 200k miles so perhaps the fluid was in poor shape and the first fluid replacement only changed out a third of the fluid is it remained in bad shape.
