Need Replacement Key...
Somehow I misplaced my key fob.
Haven't been quoted by the stealer for a new key yet but I am guessing the price will be excessive.
I understand that they need to be laser cut in GB and then sent here to be programmed - which could take 3-4 weeks and is absolutely ridiculous. I have also heard that LRNA may be able to cut keys stateside.
Any other alternatives or info?

I bet all your thoughts are on the right path. Even if you were able to obtain a used one, it will likely need to be programmed to the vehicle (trip to dealer or someone with advanced scanner/computer). Rover wants a vehicle that has robust security, so no one can steal the crown jewels; and a vehicle that no one can work on except an authorized dealer, with latest software and well trained experienced techs. They go after this design goal with a zeal that is not matched by some other factories.
Must be working, here's a list of top ten stolen cars (year model), and no Land Rover:

I am uncertain about getting the key cut. I do know that in order to have a key activated to a vehicle, it must be programmed via the computer system. All keys must be present (so I have heard) at programming time.
Contact the dealer, and ask them if they cut the key there, or if it needs to be ordered cut. Either way, you will need to go to the dealer or use a faultmate or someone with a multi vehicle one to pair it to the vehicle.
I have been thinking about ordered a key online which come uncut, so I would hope there is a way to cut them without sending them back to the uk, or there would be no market for them.

LRNA cuts the keys and we program them. Sorry but thats the facts. its not cheap but its the security that comes along with owning the vehicle. and yes you need all the keys.
Check around with other dealers who knows maybe the local guy may be more then a dealer then is far away. Then you can drive there and get the key cut.
oh and LR law is you must send them a faxed copy of your license, driver registration and deposit for the key. Or you must bring it in person. You are not allowed to just buy the key without the identifying documents. That is also state law.

We had to do this about 3 years ago when mine stopped charging itself and would no longer lock or unlock the car. Since it charges from the car and not a battery it had to be replaced. It didn't take 3-4 weeks but did have to be ordered from overseas and the price was around $500. Excessive , yes. Necessary? Yes.

Steps for Making a Key Without the Original:
Ask a locksmith to provide a few key blanks.
Then, you will need to file that key blank into a sharp point, kind of like a blade, and we do that using a Pippin file.
Once you have that key filed down, use a pair of vice grips to hold the blank firmly.
Or you can also consider this for likewise info
