Default Oil drain plug is stuck- 08' LR3 HSE

Went to change oil last weekend and couldn't unscrew the drain plug. I even tried unscrew it with drill, but still didn't budge. I changed oil myself 5000 miles ago and didn't have this issue. I didn't want to try torquing it too hard in fear of breaking something. Any ideas?

The torque spec is not that high, but obviously you over torqued it the last time. Did you use a new rubber seal last time?

I don't believe so. All I did was unscrew then soaked in a little oil before reinstalling. I didn't know there was a rubber seal on drain plug.

There should be a rubber seal, I buy them in boxes so I am set for years. Not sure why you would soak it in oil, that is not how its done and lubricated bolts have different torque values. Guess ya just gotta put more work into it. Try a gentle tap with a small hammer, very gentle, it may break the bond a little.

try loosening it after a good drive, while the engine is hot?
if it breaks free, then just wait a bit before draining

I bought a box of Dorman 090-115 and replace every other change
also use 6pt sockets, not 12pt

Thanks @dogulastic. I should order a backup plug in case I break it also. Having upgraded to LR3 from beloved Disco1, been loving the ride for past year.

Hit it with some penetrating fluid and slowly work it with a breaker bar, the extra torque will help

Try moving it both left and right a few times before really trying to loosen it, should help break it free.

Once it's off, make sure to give the threads in the pan a good wipe

Thanks everyone! Bought breaker bar and was able to get drain plug off this past weekend. I did drive it, then let it cool a bit. I did see the rubber gasket still on drain plug. Will be ordering my new plugs to install next oil change. While I was under the truck, I saw oil on a crops bar in front (towards hood). Is that part of the front diff assembly or something else? Anyone know if there’s a parts diagram to identify parts on underside?
