Default Oil Type

So I have been doing searches and since my new rig is puffing white fluffy smoke, I figured I would ask the question......

Does anyone here use Castrol per the owners manual? It says 5-30 and nothing about synthetic. I used to run Rotella in my 01 RR 4.6 HSE with some Lucas additive up around 150,000 miles.

I found bottles of M1 5-30 synthetic in the rear so I guessing the PO was running that stuff. Seems like a thin oil for a rig with such high miles. 161K.

I would like to hear peoples opinions on the topic.

Synthetic vs. Conventional?

And just to piggy back on the topic, what type of filter are you running?

Is that on the 2009?

That is what my manual says to run in 2006. So must be the same for all years.

Yes, on my 2009.
I'm running the LR filter now but next time will use a quality after market like the Mobil 1 extended.

Castrol Edge 5W 30 (edge replaced syntec?) with a K&N filter. HP1014 is the part no. I believe.

Been great.

Thinking the same thing. Hopefully it's not something worse.

I know and from the post it would sound like that but I needed a new motor because the PO was a bone head and ran the Landy while it over heated.

I wish it was steam. I'd have over 3K in my bank account this morning.
