Just bought my first Land Rover in Boise. 2008 LR3 SE. Drove it back to southern Nevada. Hit some trails along the way and performed amazing. Super smooth on the highway and got around 23mpg. Can’t wait to get some new tires on it and take it out to the mountains.
Well, I was just cleaning my engine area the other week and I took off the engine cover to clean some pine needles that got blown in there and I made a shocking discovery. I had mice in my car! And they ate my engine cover pad! I was thinking back to the huge winter storm we had in my area 3 months ago and how my car was the only car in my whole family who could drive in that, I guess some mice decided that it was a pretty toasty place to hang out until the storm passed.
I did some internet searches and I found that the insulation that they use in attics would work as a replacement, and I cut one out using the exact measurements I got off the old one. The hardest part was taking the old one off without breaking any of the 6 retaining clips.
And now everything is back in my baby! The best part is that the new insulation is "pest proof".
On Sunday, started drying out the right side carpet after heavy rains. Seems I forgot to order and install new A-pillar trim after a high speed highway removal event last December (as a side note 100 mph tape has been tested to be at least 92 mph tape)
Wednesday, I started the Install of a Land Rover factory winch in anticipation of a long beach trip on Saturday.
Saturday morning before our trip, I installed 2 new A-Pillar trim pieces that came off back in Dec.
On Sunday I am drying out the carpet again. not from rain or the rim pieces, but because I was too busy making sure the winch was on and the Rover was properly packed for the Saturday beach trip I forgot to confirm the A/C drain was connected while reinstalling the trim pieces after pulling up the carpet during the drying event from last week.
Dont forget those AC drains clog like the sunroof drains. I use a bottle of driving water with a push-top and insert it into the drain and flush it that way. Works really well.
While not my first design choice, I suppose an outdoors theme is appropriate for a Rover. I do appreciate the idea and the effort it took.
I tip my hat to you.
So I have been off for duty for the last 36 days. The LR3 was holding my spot at the RV storage lot on post, she cranked right up didn't miss a beat.
So after getting situated and filling it up I went to the PX and found that they are expanding into overland fun.
A little while later and unboxed in place.
Then I realized that the Poverty Spec edition LR3 does not have a power port in the back... It looks like their is not constant hot back there to pull from...
There are worst ways to spend a months worth of Per Diem
Army Rover: I never heard it called the Poverty Spec edition, but that is an accurate description I suppose. As for the power. YES that is a problem we all faced when we got a fridge.
Since I have an Aux battery, the logical thing was to run a wire down the driver side. You could do that and then run it across the back and over to the right side under the carpet. If you are wanting to use the fridge where it is in the picture that would be the fastest route. Seems there are fewer wires on the left side wire channel and you don't have to fight routing it around the pedal, A/C unit or the wire connections in the right side foot well.
As for wire size, you know bigger is better, I ran 12 gauge. I tried a 10, but it was a tough fit transitioning from the foot well trim and getting it under the threshold and then under black wire channel cover without modification. I ran a single wire and used the closest grounding lug for the negative side. Seem to work just fine.
Test fit of fridge and slide out on new deck some years ago.
Hope that helps (some)
Jeff
A test fir of my SnoMaster 60L on the new rear deck.

It's what I call mine since I think the V8 and seat heaters are the only options that were ticked off on the order sheet lol.
I'm sticking with it on the passenger side as I have the 70/30 split rear seat. The narrow section is on the passenger side. That allows for me to still set up my bed on the drivers side with a bit more comfort(read not wedging my fat old butt into the narrow opening lol)
