Default Bit was in there as well?

Are you saying the Phillips bit was in there as well?

if so, those magnetic plugs are a real money saver. I gather getting both the fill and drain plugs out was not a problem?

Did they both use the same size wrench?

Ha - no the bit was just to provide scale!

As for getting out the plugs, the drain was pretty easy, the fill plug was a real pig as it was very corroded. It ended up being an 8mm hex.

Default First every oil change?

I am wondering now if that was the first every oil change for your rear differential.

Given that the fill plug was near frozen in, that suggests perhaps that was the first time it had been removed.

The drain plug threaded end would always be sitting in an oil bath so there would be less opportunity for corrosion of the threads, but the fill plug would for the most part be effectively exposed on both ends to atmospheric air.

As to the stuff held by the magnet, that is probably normal and why LR provides a magnetic plug - they know what can be in there from the factory.

Diagnosed the rear parking assist failure need to order a couple sensors. Love the GAP tool, best thing you can get for a LR3

Picked up a ton of Mobile 1 and a filter so I can do a oil change tomorrow.

I had to do the same thing last year. Hardest part about that is getting the clips out that are on the top of the rear bumper cover. Not difficult, just annoying. Overall, it takes some time to remove the entire bumper just to replace a parking sensor, but it's not bad and goes quicker than you think it will.

Changed the front diff oil today and all looked good, only some minor sludge on the mag plug - thankfully. The oil also looked pretty good, but I have no idea if it has ever been changed.

Jason @ Series Defender was extremely kind to make sure these vents arrived just a few hours before my road trip! So excited and I know these will be very helpful during our trip.
