Default When making new Keys at dealer must my old key be deactivated ?

Hi..I made two new OEM fob keys at Land Rover dealer but they deactivated my original one which I was counting on using as well.
Did my old one have to be deactivated ?
Thank you

All I have ever heard is that all keys must be present at the time of encoding.

No, it did not have to be deactivated. They probably just wiped it from the vehicle because they did two new ones for you but they could have left it alone and working, too.

I managed to destroy a key fob by washing it and when the shop made me a new one the OTHER pre-existing key that I didn’t laundry was left working. So I’m back to two keys.

If you order two new ones from the dealer and are NOT clear that they will be additional keys, then yes the old ones are wiped because they set and program based on all keys lost. That way if the old key is found, no one can "steal" the vehicle. So you have to be very clear. With that said, with the equipment they have I think they can program that extra one you have now back to the truck on the new code setup.

I used my GAP tool to program some new keys but you must have ALL your keys present when programming or the absent ones will be eliminated. You will then have to gather ALL your existing keys together and reprogram the whole set. I think you all understand how I come to know this, I am the proud owner of 4 working keys/FOBs...
