Yet another GAP question
Greetings All,
Is there an alternative to GAP and Nanocom when it comes to key programming? I have a diagnostic tool that I like and does everything I need. I know all of the capabilities of the GAP, and how wonderful it is, and I know if I get one it will render my old reader obsolete for the LR3.
I need to program 3 aftermarket key fobs to my LR and my web search all points to GAP.
Also, I have one working key fob that starts the rig, however the battery is toast. I was told that the fob battery runs the lock functions and the chip that has the code to start the car is totally independent of the battery and circuit board (it’s kind of like a chip that you’d put in your dog). Is this info correct?
I know I need a functioning key to program others, will my key fob work as one? I don’t have an issue soldering in a new battery if needed, but the battery that was in there corroded and it looks like ruined part of the board. I really don’t want to get a VIN assigned key from England or my dealer. Uggh.
Thanks everyone for any feedback/advice. Happy 4-wheelin’ 😊
