beware AC Delco Oil Filters
I was in a bind and didn't have a spare oil filter on hand. I ordered an AC Delco brand oil filter for our Range Rover Sport HSE 5.0. When I installed the filter, I noticed that the oil filter cap was broken, the spring assembly that the filter slides over had come apart. I slide the filter over the plastic cage that ordinarily holds the spring and caps. Installed the oil filter cover and started the truck, moved it forward 20 feet and shut it down. I ordered a new OEM oil filter cover. When I removed the old cover, the oil filter did not come with it. I was stuck in the oil filter housing. The filter itself pulled away from the base. The base was stuck in the oil filter housing. Parts of the base had disintegrated. I picked out all of the pieces that that I could find. Getting the neck out of the oil filter housing was a bear. It took about an hour to get it loose. I have done at least twenty oil changes in these trucks and have never had anything like this happen before. I usually use a Mann or Mahle brand filter. Buyer beware. I will not be buying another AC Delco cartridge-style oil filter. (for those that are wondering, yes, I did liberally lubricate the seals on the filter with oil before I installed it}. I am hoping that none of the filter parts made their way into the engine oil.
