2013 LR4, 105000 miles. Yesterday was nearly coasting at 25mph. When I went to accelerate I found that I lost my forward gears. Fault reader said Fault PO502-82 (2E) which is a VSS fault but it sounds like that could be caused by multiple things. Coasted to a stop and had no reverse, not even park. The shifter went into its spots, the dash showed P,N,D but nothing. My (nonLR) mechanic today lifted it up and when it was in drive, ONLY the front driveshaft turned but the front axles did not. Mechanic seems relatively confident that the problem is something broke in the front differential and wants to put a new used one in. The curious thing is when I lost my gears there was no noise, no thud or shimmy, no nothing. And I was going slow enough it seems I would have heard or felt something. I was hoping it was a broken wire from a sensor but he said that there are no sensors going to the front diff.
Has anyone gone through this or does the diagnosis add up?
