At 65k the fuel pump and water pump went. At 70k another water pump and the rest of the engine cooling system. I’m at 73k now and I had the MAP sensor had to be replaced and I’m currently dealing with a fuel management system problem causing me to get 12.8mpg.

The point is, Land Rovers look cool, I grew up with them in South Africa but the truth is, they are horrible cars to own and I couldn’t in good conscience tell someone to buy one. Maybe a D90 or 110 TDI but do not get a modern Land Rover, you’re just throwing money away in my opinion!

Agreed - expensive to buy but even more expensive to own. But in my case I made the mistake 2 times! I got rid of my last LR4 in 2017 for a Toyota 4Runner - which of course has been trouble free.

There is nothing really “normal” about brakes that wear out at 30,000 miles and cost around $1200 to replace. I could rant on and on about my multitude of issues on these beasts (spent many a good Saturday at the service department- almost was like a coffee shop to me). One word to describe and sum up - UNRELIABLE!

I am on my 3rd... an 03 D2, an 06 LR3 and now a 2011 LR4. I love em... the look, the drivability, the storage, the off road capacity. Yes you need to be diligent in keeping up to date on the maintenance. and yes said maintaince can be expensive at times. Find yourself a reliable non dealer mechanic, buy your own parts. learn to do some your own work. Sure you can buy something else that just needs to dropped at the dealer every so often, pay the cost and out you go. If thats what you want, go get it, enjoy. For me, I have had those, they are great. I like Land Rovers, even the quirks. In my opionion, there is nothing on the road that does or comes close to what my lr4 can do. There is not much out there with the same interior capacity, with off road abilities, while at the same time being able to come back into town after 5 days off road photographing and camping to pick up my wife and head to the symphony. hit the access height suspension Button and she easily glides in... as well as out as we arrive. SO if you don't like... don't get. we live in a world of choices, I have made mine.

My current, 2011LR4, Evo Corse Dakar zero wheels, on board air, 3/4 frontrunner rack, fallen at3 tires, Llams suspension module...and more to come.
