Question 4.11 gear ratio

Hi Disco Mike and others,

Can you provide any info on the 4.11 gear ratio mod.

I assume this is the differential gearing (crown and pinion).

Disco STD was 3.58, L3 and defender 4.???

I'm obtaining a 2nd hand ARB locker, and may want to change gear ratio like you guys.

Does this help the lag at low revs ?

I have a TDI 300, bit doughy still in the sand, and lags till turbo cuts in after 2000 rpm.

Maybe gear ratio will help these issues.

regards

oztrax

There are a number of factors that go in to choosing a different diff ratio, tire OD, engine, transfer case high range ratio and primary driving terrain. The 300 tdi has a different transfer ratio than the petrol, IIRC.
There are several final drive ratio calculators on the net.
Another factor is what you want for low range. You might choose to have a creepy crawly low range in which case you'd get a much higher diff R&P and install a lower transfer high range ratio so you keep more normal road manners.

Also, does your Disco have CDL, which is needed to run a locker?

Ashcroft and GBR(Great Basin Rovers). You might have better luck with Ashcroft since you're in Australia.

Best bet would be to check at aulro.com for where they get their parts. That forum is huge and has a high level of participation.

All the Rover coilers had the same 3.54 ratio as stock.
If you post on AULRO there's a good chance you'll find some a bit more local than the US or GB.
