harbor freight Badlands winch review
Yes remote has wireless transmitter that plugs in selenoid same as pinned switch cord. Tremendous range on it, as well.
As far as running toggles.. Seems like a couple of extra components, that have potential for failure. For battery management, I think I'd rather opt for the manual switch at the battery. But that's just my opinion. For winch switching, i suppose you could just run your existing winch switch through the firewall, if you were so inclined.

so, for the second time, I have had issue with loosing ground at the tiny bolt coming from solenoid box. first it wiggled loose, tightened and done. this time it was stripped. Probably, from me over tightening the first time. I removed the bolt and put in a grommet, then connected the ground inside the box.....done.
It is also my opinion that this box, is easily the weakest link in the set up. maybe it works better on the intended rail mount location. but mine has not sealed up good and I have had moisture inside. so in addition to the new grommet, I also made a little gasket to go under the lid. hoping that will fix that.
otherwise, still I have had no MAJOR issue, still working fine.

The better version of that solenoid( the Albright or Superwinch one) is a sealed waterproof unit. I've had mine divorced from my Warn(old winch) and Viking winch for years now with zero problems.
Not sure if the solenoid in the Badlands winch is designed to be waterproof or not, or what the build quality on it is.

Well, I have completely destroyed my cable and am in need of new.
I want to replace with syn rope. My question is conversion size?
I have 85' of what used to be 3/8" steel cable, do I have to get the same in the synthetic or can I fit more on the spool? Like 100' of 7/16" or what? Thanks in advance for the overwhelming outpour of knowledge, info, suggestions, love, and support

I'm assuming you mean 100' of 5/16" cable? 7/16" is larger and therefore you would be able to fit less, not more. 7/16" is also way overkill. 5/16" synthetic is rated more than 3/8" steel and is a common replacement. Check Amazon for good deals on MasterPull line. Search for "Amsteel winch line" shipping from Master Pull out of Washington.

thanks for the lead. very cool sight. they sell by the foot, too.
so do you think 100' would fit? or should I just be safe and stick with 85 and an extra extension?
I recently came up short (insert, "that's what she said" joke, here). about 20' short with a couple of extensions. maybe I just need to get some ground anchors, but they always seem iffy, to me.

yep 5/16. mistype, sorry bout that, 7/16 doesn't really seem smaller than 6/16.

The synthetic rope may trap the heat on the spool possibly overheating the motor.
I dunno what I'm talking about, I read it on the interweb. So, it's gotta be true.
I would double check the compatibility of synthetic rope with the HF winch. I read the braided steel cable acts as a heat exchanger (heat sink) absorbing heat created by energy produced from the winch while under heavy use.

seriously, I will research
. thank you for the heads up.edit: did some quick research. Phone call to product tech commies yielded "replacement should be of same strength and an approved winch cable" so they know as much as I do

sent an email to the badland peps. I will probably get a cautioned response in a couple of days.
my interwebby skills are weak, but I found that the rope can be susceptible to compromise if not shielded from winch heat, on the first of the revolutions. I found not on the heat dissipation of the winch needing the steel cable.
I got the extended warranty......so I will be a guinea pig and try the rope. If it fries and if you do not tell on me, I will respool the junk cable, get a replacement and know better next time

EDIT: You might not have a problem with 100' of 5/16" line. I was thinking of my own rig that has 3/8" synthetic line.
I meant look at Amazon for the Master Pull line.
Same line from the same seller only MUCH cheaper.
